Introduction

On the onset, welcome to the Directorate of Security Services, the Directorate of Security Services was formed by a decision from the University Management in mid-2009 to restructure the security system then referred to as Security Department which was under the control of a Chief Security Officer.

Since its inception the Directorate decentralized security services by introducing Zonal Areas to all parts of the Main Campus complete with zonal offices and zonal officers. Ruiru, City and Parklands Campuses are also Zonal Areas for the purposes of security management. In all we have established nine security zones which are operational. For ease of communication each zonal officer has been equipped with a mobile phone and a pocket radio.

Overview

The Directorate of security services provides law enforcement services to the university within a 24 hour span. All our security officers exercise the powers conferred to them by the law. These officers patrol on and off campus facilities and university activities on foot, on bicycles, motor bikes and in conspicuously marked security vehicles. The Directorate comprises of plain clothes officers, uniformed officers and investigators. All these dedicated officers and our support staff are focused on preserving an environment where you can study, live and work safely. The men and women of Directorate of security services are dedicated to serve the needs of the Kenyatta University Community.
